Baltimore Wedding Photographer Kathy Freundel bio picture

My Passion

As a young girl I dreamed of being on Broadway.

I planned to move to New York with a girlfriend in my early 20's.

{I got a communications degree and became a high school English teacher instead.}

I met an amazing stage director and musician and fell head over heels.

He asked me to marry him on our second date. I was 26.

We had beautiful babies. Lots and lots of beautiful babies.

My  girlfriend asked me, "What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?"

Capture beauty through my lens.

Life is precious. I'm only guarenteed this moment. And I'd rather fail at something I LOVE than succeed at something I could take or leave. Life in a nutshell.

I know who I am. I know whose I am. And His plans for me are far greater than I could ask or imagine.

I. love. life.

Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to visit my former blog "through the lens.

Oh, did I fail to mention??

Steph and Allie.

Besties.

Got each other’s backs.

Always have.

All a girl needs is one true blue.

The apples and the trees.

Have I mentioned? . . . .I love my life:)

Steph.

Steph is my girl. Remember the Faces of Speights post from months ago? {it’s in actor’s headshots if you missed it} . . . well, Steph was the one standing at my back when it all went down, laughing just as hard as I.  That’s how Steph rolls . . . she’s a party waiting to happen, in the very best way.  Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

My favorite. Wow, Steph. Fierce.

I love it when my clients are willing to sit in random forest trash. LOL. Steph Speights . . . you are on your way, girlfriend.

Allie Girl.

For years I’ve heard about Allie . . .from my own daughters who see her light, her easy smile, her comfort in her own skin. Allie’s the kinda girl I want my girls to be watching. Bottled light. A formidable hockey player. Sunny and strong. Allie girl.

Kristina + Evan. E-Session.

Mr. Hopkins allowed us the run of the land . . . the farm, the woods, the buildings . . .

After canceling our late summer Fenwick Island E-session because of a Labor Day Hurricane I was eager to give Kristina and Evan their heart’s desire. We hit the most beautiful autumn day and were light chasers for a blissfull chunk of the afternoon.

They will be married on the beach. Outer Banks to be exact. Sweet. Life.

Nancy + Carl. Antrim 1844.

Antrim 1844. He wooed her over long six course dinners and moonlit walks through the immaculate gardens to the gazebo under the stars. He wooed her with his words, his romance, and his ability to hear her heart of hearts. Carl got his girl, and he and Nancy share the easy flow that people who are well suited enjoy. It was such a pleasure to spend the afternoon with them, hearing about their long distance relationship which will expire as soon as they’re hitched. Will it be the Florida Gulf Coast? Or will it be Washington, DC? I think the jury’s still out on that one, but one thing is for sure . . . home is wherever they are together.

And . . . they can dance!

Nancy and Carl . . .I’ve enjoyed every minute with you both. From our Panera date to our email flurries to our crisp autumn afternoon at the mansion . . . you both are pure joy!

Ashley + Andrew. Union Mills Homestead E-Session.

She went out on a limb and said yes to the invitation. Her classmate at Stevenson University was hosting a bible study and she was feeling the draw. First meeting, there he sat. Smiling, open and utterly charming, and she knew right away. He was gonna be hers. Five months later the deal was sealed, and next June it’ll be made official.

In the middle of our early fall engagement session, I just blurted it out:

Wait. I just gotta tell you. You have it. Hard to put words to it, but it’s easiness together, the ability to be real. Silly. Passionate. The whole spectrum of everything real, all in a single moment. It’s right and it’s beautiful. And I’m so happy you found each other.

And that fully restored ’68 pickup he brought? Now that was icing on the cake.  They are in for a sweet ride together.

Ashely and Andrew . . . so excited for your wedding next June. So, so excited. You are so perfect together.

Megan + Adam. National Harbor Wedding.

Adam shifted his weight from leg to leg as he waited for Megan to descend the lobby staircase of uber modern Aloft Washington National Harbor. I knew it would be an intense moment, for I enjoyed a big taste of Megan and Adam and their intimate bond earlier this spring when we spent an afternoon traveling together through downtown Baltimore to document their love story. Have I mentioned that I lovelovelove to capture a wedding day first look?  I put on my big gun  and stand way back to let it organically unfold. Their first look marked the start of an incredible day in the heart of DC. . . .Megan and Adam surrounded by family and friends celebrating their passion for one another.

Not  allowing uncooperative weather to dampen their day, we used the stormy skies as dramatic backdrop.

Tyler and I arrived earlier in the day to scope out alternative shooting locations . . . not a hard find at all.

Betsy Robinson outfitted  Megan in  Essence of Australia perfection, complete with monogram sewn into the dress, hanging on a personalized hanger than Megan found on Etsy.

Megan, you are absolutely breathtaking on the inside and out. Your family and friends were speaking it all day, and well, every time Adam glances your way, it gets written all over his face.

Getting ready for the first look . . . have I mentioned that I LOVE it when my couples choose to share their first look soley with one another? I do.  I so do.

Yep. He came for her. And they had their moment. My favorite element of this photo is the fish head sneaker at the top of steps. . . .that woulda’ been kinda awkward.

I’m not telling the whole truth here. Yes, they were alone in the stairwell . . . but up in the balcony were her bridesmaids and their immediate families watching it all unfold. Yeah, some heckling and cheering from the peanut gallery.

Aforementioned peanut gallery, in part.

Complete peanut gallery.  Still cheering and heckling. The way it is when you have a long history with your friends.

We were able to chase down pockets on beautiful light throughout the afternoon.

Remember that look of Adam’s I told you about?? There it is.

Adam makes his promise to Megan. . .

. . . and she receives it to her very core.

National Harbor Sunset Room with incredible views overlooking the water and a huge sculpture of Poseidon reaching out of the sand was a gorgeous backdrop to the evening.

And Washington Talent’s Lance Ortega did a great job keeping the party rolling. Seriously . . . that dance floor was full the whole night. That’s the mark of a man who knows how to mix tunage well.

Adam and his fraternity brothers from Penn State sat Megan in the middle of the room and serenaded her. A heartfelt serenade. Sing Off material? This I cannot say.

You know a bride is enjoying her party when this remains untouched all evening!

Megan and Adam, my dad’s alway told me . . . “worry about the things you can change, let go of the things you can’t.” You walked that wisdom all day long. The result? Your wedding was a joy to everyone around you . . . all evening long. Thank you for allowing me to document your intimate bond, twice now. I am grateful.

Risa + Patrick. Kentlands Mansion Wedding.

They’ve got resolve. And they don’t  mess around. It presented in their determination to let go of everything unimportant and immerse in the real. For Risa,  that meant  reading her heartfelt vows to Patrick  in husky whisper, as the guests strained to catch snippets of getting lost in the desert and waking with a long morning kiss.  For Patrick that meant indulging in Junior’s desire to wander among the guests pre ceremony, exploring the open arms of cherished family and friends. And so the evening continued, abundant in its lack of pretension and formality. Just the way Risa and Patrick purposed it should be.  Elegant and stately Kentlands Mansion, nestled in the hills of historic Gaithersburg, Maryland provided perfect contrast to the easy flow of Risa and Patrick enveloped by their family and friends.

A perfect blend in so many ways.

Eddie Cobian . . . a gift of perfection for you both.

Vows.

Jessica Robinson and her team at Sardi’s of Washington, DC provided a seamless backdrop of exquisite taste for the evening with the party hosted by R.J. Walls.

Risa and Patrick, thank you for the privilege. You are beautiful together. Just perfect.

Urban Chic Revolution. American Visionary Arts Museum.

You cannot make a revolution with silk gloves, but you can sure start some talkin’ with a body painted raffle gal. That’s my Stalin: Freundelian mash up of pith.

Urban Chic’s  Revolution, the American Visionary Arts Museum benefit of 2011 made a dent. In this case, the only thing more powerful than two sisters getting together is two sistas getting together. Urban Chic’s Linsday Cannata Buscher and Putting on the Ritz’s Cate Buscher married two sharp brothers years ago . ..over those Thanksgiving table conversations, they have joined to do some serious movin’ and shakin’ in our quirky but lovely Bmore.

Last year’s team won the National Association of Catering Executives Group Award for Event of the Year, so when Cate invited me to be a part of this year’s event as well . . . no hesitation. The girl knows how to raise some serious money for a great cause. Besides, it was a great opportunity for me to hang with some of my favorite artists in the city.

Jean Wade Mayer and Emily Jean of Boutique Events, LLC.  Jean and I quickly set upon pretending we will fix  foster care and international adoption  when we get together. . . she’s a woman that knows how to git’r done.

My partner in crime, Daniel McGarrity . . . who has landed in Hamden (nice!) and taken Bmore by storm with his amazing aesthetic.

All Hail the Queen. 98 Rock’s Sarah Fleischer . . . that girl knows how to get people up and roaring!

Plan it Perfect’s Rachel Hoffberger Shaw with the VIP’s frontman, Tim . . . who rocked the house. And I wish I could show you how amazing Cate Buscher looked . . . but the girl was running at 75 mph all night!

Did ya miss it? It WAS great fun. Raised a ton of money for AVAM . . . keep your ears tuned to more going on at AVAM . . . where irreverent and museum collide to mirth.

Pejman. Shannon. Annapolis. Bliss.

ROI.

Return on Investment.

He understands it completely. Yeah, he’s a rock star commodities broker, but that’s not it.

A couple of boyhood friends, well chosen.

A cadre of family and friends, with serious history.

A wife, well loved who loves well.

Parents, honored for the sacrifices they’ve made to preserve two cultures.

Pejman’s 40th birthday weekend gives testiment to his fine ability to invest purposefully and wisely.

And when his nieces and nephews are in his arms . . . he is every bit the rock star, deservedly.

Just one more commentary . . . how many friends do you have that would transport the entire party from the Hamptons to Annapolis, due to the imminent delivery of a baby preventing mamma travel? No kidding. Shannon rented a home on the river, chartered a schooner, had individual custom tees made, invited the posse and created a weekend that made Pejman feel like the luckiest 40th birthday boy to sail the high seas.

Access the entire party right here . . . .

This was one of those days of little miracles. Not taking credit; the photos were a gift.

Sailing. By the Sea. Shooting. I could have stood in a 2×2 area the entire day and just absorbed the love that surrounded me.

Happy birthday, Pejman. You are well loved.

And thank you, every single one of you,  truly, for making me feel part of the circle.

Carl Freundel - Wow! Fantastic pictures. You captured such fun, such personality, such beauty. The winsomeness of people that love each other on a canvas of extraordinary vibrancy and beauty. Clearly, a wonderful, fun, life affirming memory captured through the lens of your amazing eye. The pictures actually shout about the glory of the day. Kath, I need to be your second shooter, because your pictures embrace a place I wish I was at with you! Great job. Happy birthday, as well, to a beautiful family.September 20, 2011 - 9:27 am
